Kitchen Tile Removal and Internal Demolition Done Right

We’ve seen our fair share of kitchens over the years, but there was something special about the job we recently did in a quiet street in South Melbourne. The couple—Sarah and Michael—had just bought their first home. From the minute we stepped through the door, we knew this kitchen removal was going to be a rewarding project.

They’d called us in for a full internal demolition, including complete wodden tile removal. It wasn’t just about ripping things out—it was about creating space for something new, a fresh start. And that’s exactly what we love to do.

Getting Started – The Walkthrough

When we arrived for the first walkthrough, Sarah had a notebook full of ideas, and Michael was almost already measuring out where the new kitchen island would go. They wanted more than just a functional space—they wanted flow, light, and the ability to entertain guests in a warm, open-plan layout.

But first, we had to get rid of what was there: decades-old cabinetry, thick, old wodden tiles bonded to concrete, and an internal dividing wall that had closed off the kitchen from the rest of the house.

We explained the process to them in full detail—how the tile removal would work, how we manage dust and debris, what’s involved in safe internal demolition, and how we ensure the rest of the apartment is respected throughout the process. They liked that we were clear and careful. We don’t do cowboy work. We do it clean, safe, and properly.

Tile Trouble? Not for Us.

We started the job two days later. First step: tile removal. The tiles were tough—the type that had been installed in the 80s, with lots of adhesive to survive a tornado. But we came prepared with the right tools: floor scrapers, jackhammers with dust control, and experience. Tile by tile, layer by layer, we peeled back the decades. As we removed them, we discovered the original concrete floor.

We kept the noise and mess to a minimum, sealing off other rooms and using vacuums to control dust. Soon, the tiles were gone, the subfloor was exposed and ready for the builders to work with.

The Kitchen cabinet Comes Down

Next up was the internal demolition phase. We’d already confirmedthat the old cabinet has to go to create space and air to a new, more modern interior. We took the usual precaution protecting our body and the house —cutting power to the area, double-checking for wiring and plumbing, and planning every cut.

There’s always a moment of tension when you start knocking big installations and furniture, especially in someone’s home. But when the cabinet finally came down piece by piece, the space opened up, you could almost feel the air shift. You could imagine the future kitchen forming in that moment. Sarah stood happy in the doorway and said, “This already feels like a new house.” We smiled. That’s the moment we work for.

The Clean-Up and the Satisfaction

During the demolition, we always immediately remove the debris. After no rubble was left behind anymore, we loaded all the waste, to sort it at our warehouse into stuff that could be recycled or disposed of responsibly. Part of our job isn’t just removing things—it’s making sure we leave the space better than we found it.

Michael told us he appreciated how respectful we were of their home. It’s something we pride ourselves on. Anyone can take a sledgehammer to an old house. Not everyone does it with care and attention.

Why We Do What We Do

For us, jobs like this aren’t just about internal demolition or kitchen tile removal. They’re about transformation. We’re the team that comes in at the very beginning—before the new appliances, before the fresh paint. We create the blank canvas.

Every house we walk into tells a story. And every time we finish a job, we know we’ve helped someone turn the page to the next chapter.

So, if you’re planning a kitchen reno, don’t overlook the importance of doing it right from the start. Hire a team that takes tile removal seriously. Work with professionals who know that internal demolition is as much about safety and precision as it is about opening up space.

Just like we did for Sarah and Michael, we’ll come in, do it right, and leave you with a clean slate and a fresh start.
